Geez, Even Fargo Has Gone Upscale
Fargo, N.D. — I know you’re watching — so I’ll explain the difference between the University of North Dakota and North Dakota State University.
Like most schools in the United States, the University of North Dakota is the kind of university that was designed to produce “one in a thousand.”
But that’s not the U.S. Department of Education’s problem with the University of North Dakota.
The U.S. Department of Education is concerned about the University of North Dakota.
The Department of Education says the University of North Dakota’s “tiger mascot, the Fighting-D, is just too much.”
It says the University of North Dakota’s “collegiate athletic teams have historically been dominated by male student-athletes who have never played a down of collegiate basketball.”
In order to make up for the lack of female athletes, the Department of Education wants the University of North Dakota to switch its mascot from a tiger to the Fighting-D — but not even a football team will make the change, even though a few of the Fighting-D teams play football.
Not surprisingly, the University of North Dakota is arguing that the Department of Education is violating the First Amendment to the Constitution.
And while I can understand the Department of Education’s annoyance with the University of North Dakota, I’m not sure I agree with the University of North Dakota’s response.
I’m not sure I agree with what’s being proposed by the University of North Dakota.
The University of North Dakota’s mascot, the Fighting-D, is one of the nation’s most popular college football mascots, and that popularity has led to its becoming a popular collegiate football mascot.
And while some of the University of North Dakota’s football teams play football, for the most part, they didn’t.
The Fighting-D football team was the third oldest team in the country, but they also didn’t play football while they were at the University of North Dakota.
As I understand it, the University of North Dakota used to compete in one of the oldest and most prestigious American collegiate athletics programs: the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.
The “tiger” football team was one of the most successful teams in any American college football program.
And as I understand the University of North Dakota’s athletic program, they were the most successful.
