Can a computer play a game more consistently and reliably than a human being? For the most part, yes. But once you take the human element out of games, there is no point in having games, none. The unpredictability that is inherently present with humans is what literally makes the difference between a champion and everyone else. That is the ENTIRE point of a game. Building a robot defeats the purpose and spirit of games.

You know you have to implement it without the overhead camera, with either a camera on the cue or on your glasses. Or the one on your glasses builds up a model of the scene as you look at the table from various angles, and the one on the cue does the aiming instead of projecting onto the table.

That's pretty awesome. Suggestions? Make it so it fits on your arm, and mounts a regular unmodified pool stick. It should be powered by something that fits on your back. Instead of the overhead camera, a head mounted 3d capture/augmented reality system. You could walk around the table a few times to map the table in 3d. Yes I realize that what I'm describing is pretty far out, but not impossible, and you're original automatic pool stick idea was pretty far out too, but you made it work. It would take some time, but I do believe you could make something based on this concept that was more flexible, self-contained and user-friendly. For normal pool stick held by a system mounted to arm, the stick could go through a fixed loop near the hand/wrist, while the back of the stick was moved on an xy axis near the elbow for aim, then bumped on the z axis for the shot. Maybe you could use gyro sensors to track positioning, then record points of reference for the holes by running a gyro sensor along the rim of each hole. If you don't have a stationary camera, but rather just pov, then combining photogrammetry with motion tracking sensors may be a possible solution.
