They're are over 4000 crypto currencys at the moment. Ethereum and bitcoin have two separate ones by themselves and probably a 3rd is in the works from both of them. Basically what I'm saying is invest in one you like and cash out before the crypto crash because it's coming. It's just like the .com bubble in the 90s. Don't put anything in crypto that would make you upset if you lost it. After the crash the government will step in and throw some money around and what we will be left with is 1-5 cryptos backed and regulated by the fed and new legislation preventing the production of any new cryptos. Probably 5 to 8 years from now

Isn't proof of work entirely stupid because it wastes a ton of compute? What about proof of stake? What about sharding? What about the fact you have to wait around for minutes for someone to mine the ledger block your new transaction is in (plus a few more on top for good measure) before it gets finalized, so payments can't be fast? There are many open research questions still to be solved before any of this becomes sustainable or practical.

I was part of the crypto world once but now i am radical against the unneeded massive crypto crap mining. There are now a number off miners running that i actually can not measure, but found even people around me am mining as i speak. Now everyone wants to make money, but all these miners who are being sold from pretty cheap parts called asics are now running in the billions or maybe even in the trillions. And i do not forget that there are now also a similar size of many trillions videocards being misused to make these people profiits. All of these mining constructions use MASSIVE power i dare you to try to calc how many power is wasted on these crypto crap. Everywhere i been on the planet i find massive asic and gpu farms paid out of crypto profits flooding the lands with low power prices even on greenland and iceland i found huge farms mining insane amounts of money. But what scares me is that non of these people understand how bad it is for the planet. Yes you as well with its own pc mining crypto your one of the massive amount of people mining and helping to destroy the planet by mining. Especially in china and in the america's with the low power prices it became a massive industry i see many making every year larger farms to make even more profit. So i am against this whole crypto crap now, and not a little for good reasons, its a world full of scammers and thiefs who keep this full of criminals industry going. Yes i have lost a lot of money on that crap and never ever will be part of it again. Especially because it has now so much impact on the world that you can not even buy a new gpu if you want becaus the whole crypto world buys all stock of the 2 crap makers of them who favor to sell them to the crypto miners. I actually can sell my 500 euro costed RX 5700 XT for over 850 EURO to crypto junks. Yes even some of my friends turned out to secretly been mining, while they know i am against it. But the lure of profit has got them but in time they will find that what they been doing is stupid when they get the power bill Well for some they do not care because their parents get the bill, and they keep silent that they are mining on crypto and make secret profit over their parents backs. It shows how it corrupts people to be active and steal others money, just in the same family.

What i´ve learned is that cryptocurrencies can have in the morning a 1$ value and in the same day reach the 100.000$, 10$ two days later. It´s a complex mix of faith and speculation.
