The criticism here is much more that they're doing a bike race in a professional manner, but aren't racing their bikes in any professional manner. It's just a little cringy. On a side note I think the announcing is hilariously cringy. "oH gOd NoT cLiPs!" Bro clipless pedals 101 is that they're so much safer AND more efficient than flat pedals particularly at high speeds.

Same issue when they run. They had a few years back a part during run with incline and instead of walking at 4 miles per hour they jogged at 3 miles her hour wasting energy and losing time. Consider also that these are one-size fits all bikes. Huge advantage for people who fit the bike. On top of that - you have to trust the mechanic who adjusted your bike... are the breaks how you like them? Are all the bolts at the right torque ? Mmm... let them bring their own bike or don't include it at all.
