As an ex-McDonald's employee I can tell you 2 things. Yes it is about 10 cents per cup as a base cost. All McD's drive thrus are outfitted with an ABS (Automatic Beverage System), this machine drops the crushed ice and fills the cup for the employees. This makes every cup consistent with it's volume. Also as a side note being a Michigander its Pop up here, as Soda is only used to refer to beverages using actual soda water.

FUN FACT: In Australia, what you call "Fountain drinks"... we call "PRE-MIX". If you asked for fountain drink in Australia, you would be sent to... well... a fountain! In a nightclub, a Pre-Mix Coke can cost you $4.00+ across a bar. It actually costs about 7 cents. Now THAT'S PROFIT!

EDIT: never mind, they strained it in the car straight away -This isn't the best way; the ice would melt and shrink. The volume of liquid would be greater. A better way is to store the drinks in a mini-fridge at ~1 degree Celsius/Centigrade until you actually strain it.-

I was already asking for no ice for a completely different reason. It comes out of the machine cold, the time it would take for your drink to become warm is close enough to how long it takes to become watered down by the ice.

Ok why do people like ice in their soda, especially at home. The reason you want ice is to cool your drink down but it waters down the drink and you can easily put it into the fridge. If you don't have enough space to put all of the soda in there, put like only a couple in at a time. There is no reason not to do this cuz it just is always better. At restaurants with no ice you get more soda and apperently it's more cost effective. If you want it to be cold well it is already cold so not to worry. If you have to get ice in a drink other thanwateryour the problem because you are too slow at drinking. If you had to drink for survival you would lose if you are someone who adds ice, OH WAIT. We do need to drink for survival, so stop adding ice

KFC employee here, ideally we're told to fill 1/4 ice and then the rest with whatever drink the customer selects and if its no ice then just pop a lid on after it fills but some drinks are more carbonated than others * cough * Pepsi Max * cough* and that causes you to get less so its then more filling up to what you think is 3/4

Ohhh.. So Diet Coke is what we in Europe call Coke Light... Huh... I prefer Coke Zero. Light/Diet tastes too chemical/artficial to me... Yeah, sorry, but as a European not everything I eat is straight fake... So, when you give me Coke Light/Diet I will notice that and slap you, because it feels UNCOMFY AF to me. Like, I tried some kind of American candy and... ughh... You guys are so weird... and disgusting. Not just that everything is BRUTALLY sweet, it tastes UNCOMFY sweet. Way too sweet and not even like sweet is supposed to taste. It kinda hurted in my mouth.

Honestly I say soda and pop. Just depends on what I feel to say.

This is why that if I go through the drive through and get a drink, I always say "no ice" in my drinks. Because, more room for liquid and the ice dosent water down my soda!

Sorry Matt, but you're really stretching for content here. People should already know this, Never order ice. The two dirtiest places in the restaurant are the ice maker and the soda fountain. Let alone the less soda for your $$. Mcdonald's can charge a single dollar for any size. There are refills (not during the pandemic). The syrup is a 5 gallon bag and makes a ridiculous servings of soda. Mcdonald's even waters it down to stretch that profit. Frankly with McDonald's in the mix, this video should have been two minutes. With again a warning, DON'T ORDER ICE AT RESTAURANTS IT'S THE TWO MOST COMMON PLACES FOR BACTERIA TO GROW.

I ran a mini version of this test in the UK, McDonald's easily won with the best cost being McDonald's large and the best fill percentage being medium (I was only able to get each drink once). Burger King still came easily last with the large cup being way worse than any other. Wendy's came 2nd overall, Taco Bell 3rd and KFC 4th.

You can just skip this all like me just by asking for the drink with no ice
